Say Good Bye to Dry Hair

My natural hair texture is wavy, dry and frizzy.  I have always used leave in conditioners, skip days in between washing it and use heat tools as little as possible.  But with all of the highlighting and bleaching I have been doing to my hair lately it hasn’t been enough.  My hair still looked dry… time to try something new. Here is what has worked to bring my hair back to life:

  • Double conditioner:  After washing my hair, apply conditioner.  Rinse it out, then reapply conditioner again.  I found that double conditioning my hair works so much better and hydrates so much more than applying conditioner once and letting it sit a long time.  I use Blonde Sexy Hair Conditioner (daily) and Oribe Gold Lust (once a week).
  • Use conditioner on non-shampoo days:  On the days I don’t wash my hair, I will brush my hair root to tip; getting all the natural oils down to the ends of the hair.  In the shower I will wet my hair and only apply conditioner.  This has double benefits.  The water will help to pull the natural oils down the hair shaft and I am adding moisture with the conditioner.  I only do this about once a week.
  • Treat the ends:  For more than 6 months I have used Oribe Super Shine Moisturizing Cream, which is a leave in conditioner, calms frizz and a heat protector.  This works great for my hair, but recently my ends were still feeling dry.  After applying Oribe, I spray 2 sprays of It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Treatment into my hands and massage just to the ends of my hair.
  • Coconut oil hair mask:  At night before bed I apply coconut oil to my hair.  I start several inches down from the root and pull it thru to the ends, focusing on the ends.  I pull my hair up in a top knot and sleep with the coconut oil on.  I always shampoo my hair in the morning.  Use an old pillow case, there is a chance some of the coconut oil will get on the pillow case and it can leave spots.  I do this as needed, never more than 1-2 times a month.
